TOTAL INVESTMENT – 15 units
R1– We kick off proceedings with a moderate BM70 event of little depth. The favourite Touchdown will be extremely hard to beat going off its recent form. Young Jackson Radley takes the reins with barrier 2 and a small field. He should have little trouble navigating things and the 3kg claim will be a big help. The horse has a nice turn of foot and should be too good for this lot.
If there is a danger it might come from Trapalanda, this ultra consistent fella will settle back in the field and be produced down the outside late. Ryan Houston steers, he is riding well and gets 2kgs off to assist things.
Sigriya Rock is going well and is a chance, Kokora is a roughie with some claims.
Backing #4 Touchdown (2 win units)
R2- I’m tipping young Jackson Radley to strike and early for himself and Team Hayes with Sneaky Sunrise. This mare returned to the winners list last start and I can’t see any reason why she won’t repeat that dose here. Her last win at Ballarat was even more meritorious by the fact that a riderless horse annoyed it for a fair part and she still ground out a nice victory.
Beltoro is hard fit now and on its day can pull out a big run, whilst he hasn’t won in some time, this is fair but weaker than recent races. The $16 is over the odds.
Oraqua has some hope, as does Wymark who is ready to improve.
Backing #6 Sneaky Sunrise (2 win units), #3 Beltoro (0.5 win unit)
R3-A very even race presents here. I have Cachink on top, he races well 2nd up, draws nicely, is a winner at the distance, and did run a nice race behind Taken last prep. That form is good enough to win this.
Indian Jewel is also 2nd up and has a handy record whilst fresh, she is also the beneficiary of Luke Cartwright’s 2kg claim that will assist.
Island Boy and Mixxit are others with claims.
Backing #10 Cachink (1 win unit)
R4- Another leading Team Hayes chance on the day is Dark Simba, this gelding has had two nice runs in preparation for this, and its best efforts are usually 3rd up. It gets a good run from the barrier, Luke Currie is riding well, and he should map nicely in the run, I think the $6.50 is a tad overs.
Roadcone from the Moody/Coleman camp is another who arrives here 3rd up and is a winner at that stage previously. Its recent effort behind Taken suggested that a winner wasn’t too far away.
Knobelas is flying and a definite chance, I can’t get it anywhere near $2 though. Presser is a place hope who will benefit from Houston’s claim.
Backing #8 Dark Simba (1.5 win units)
R5- The 2yo Victorian Magic Millions race and only one horse of the 11 has had a start, I won’t be playing.
The 2 faves Guest House and Unit Five both look like nice types, keen to watch them.
No Bet
R6- As we head into the back half of the program I am having a small speck on the resuming Excess here. She is a first up winner and a multiple winner at the distance. Mertens has a good affinity with her and the trainer is a gun, the $13 is appealing in a tricky race.
Another resumer Little Cointreau is the danger, he resumes for a new stable (ex Joe Pride), draws well, has won twice when first up, and Williams takes the ride. Definite hope.
Flying Mikki is another first upper, he goes great fresh, the 1200M is its sweet spot, and the $26 is double what I have marked him.
My Temptation is a nice lightly raced horse that will get favours from the draw, I won’t be surprised if he wins this.
Backing #5 Excess (1 win unit), #8 Flying Mikki (0.5 win unit)
R7- The best bet on the day lobs up here in the shape of Job Done. This lovely son of Snitzel went like a jet when winning first up here. The manner in which it went about its work that day suggested it’s better than a ‘benchmark’ horse, it finds a moderate opposition here to help continue its winning way.
Pacific Glamour is a nice filly from the McEvoy yard; it won very nicely when resuming and followed that with a fair run at its next start. She draws nicely to give her a sweet run and if there is a knockout then it could be her.
Miss Ole is another lovely filly who finished off her debut prep in fine style. Unfortunately, she gets a sticky draw and 60kgs to contend with here, that said she is certainly good enough to win.
Naifah is a little in and out but can run a good race on her day.
Backing #1 Job Done (3 win units)
R8- The best race of the day and it’s an open affair with many chances.
I like the chances of Recuperato here, this Gelagotis trained filly looks nicely placed down on the limit, and was a 3rd up winner last time in the same stage here. The booking of Williams is a plus; I think he will suit her well. At around the $9 mark I think she is worth a ticket.
The topweight Stay Focused is the class runner, he will race on speed and give a big sight His latest run was full of merit and hinted that a win was nearby.
Gin A Tonic is flying at present and will get a good cart into the race off the toppy, it’s a leading chance.
Satin Diva has done little wrong in her career thus far and won’t be far away.
Backing #10 Recuperato (1.5 win units)
R9- The Begg trained Samangu returns here after winning 5 races in her last campaign. She can certainly string wins together. She has had some typical Begg soft jump outs in preparation, and she will be ready go here, I am sure. This is reasonably deep race for such a small field and at this stage I’m probably not betting at the price.
Chinqui is a horse that I have always had a bit of an opinion of, it is ready to improve back on a drier surface and draws the rails also. It’s better than a $10 chance.
Beast Mode is another racing very well and must go in. The $2.20 doesn’t excite me though.
South Of India was a good winner last start. It is very tight in the market here and I have it marked twice what is on offer. A chance, but I couldn’t back it.
No Bet
R10- We wind up proceedings and I’m hoping Gracie’s Rain can jump, lead and win as it did first up at this course. I’m thinking she will get every chance due to the lack of apparent speed. Another tick is some very good form lines around her.
Illyivy ran some very nice races last time in. If she could slot back into that form then she is a leading contender. She gets in well after the claim and draws low, she may have an issue getting buried back on the rails. If the breaks come, then she will be storming home late.
Written Bligh can improve enough 2nd up to be a contender, and Sparkling is an honest mare who will be thereabouts at good odds.
Backing #1 Gracie’s Rain (2 win units)
