Friday, July 25 – 7.50 PM AEST – Venue: ENGIE Stadium
This is the show down and there will be plenty of spite and pressure. Expect a lot of fee kicks as these teams both need to win to keep their finals ambitions alive.
Sydney have won 5 out of the last 6 with their only slip up a close loss to the Dogs. GWS are in that mix of 4 teams trying to finish 4th, but if that fails, they want to finish 5th or 6th to secure a home final, so they need to keep winning.
Jesse Hogan should be back this week and that will make it easier for Cadman to get off the leash and add to his goal tally including 6 goals two weeks ago. I’m not sure if the Swans will rush Tom Mc Cartin back after another concussion two weeks ago – I’d suggest not. Which will make it so much to control Hogan and Cadman as well as Greene and Stringer.
Josh Kelly could also return after a minor hip injury, but they may give him another week to give Coniglio more time to find his feet again after being out for so long and not getting much of the ball last week.
Heaney kicked 5 goals and had so much of the ball last week that he should get a tag this week, but that leaves Eric Gulden and Chad Warner to run riot. The Swans forwards will need to work hard against one of the best defences in the league so the supply from Gulden, Warner and Blakey will be a key.
Sydney have players back after a wretched run of injuries but they still aren’t playing the footy they were in 2024.
