R1– A tricky race to get the day underway with several horses resuming and others rising in grade. It’s not an event I’m overly keen to get involved in.
I’ve settled on Bacash from the Team Hayes yard, he is racing very consistently, draws well, gets Zahra to steer and should prove to be the testing material.
Sulek is the improver with plenty of scope, his 2 career runs have both had good merit and although he rises in class the race is set up nicely for him.
Icarian Dream should be cherry ripe now and she will be strong at the end of the 1400M.
Call Da Vinci appears here after a spell and may well be heading for another level, his first prep yielded 2 wins and 3 placings from his 5 tries. He hails from Brissy but he had from around some handy types.
No Bet
R2- Arabian Prince appeals he as a horse on the rise, and whilst he is still a maiden, I think that tag will be removed here. The step up in trip looks perfect as he transitions through to the Derby in a fortnights time. In both his runs he has been unsuited by tempo, and I think this will be a truer run contest. If he gets decent speed as expected, he will settle just off midfield and be too strong for them late.
Engine Of War is another one Derby bound, he is bred to get a trip, draws the coveted rails alley and Zahra sticks rom his most recent effort. They will be looking to get away from the fence coming to the corner, that looks to be his biggest challenge given his racing pattern.
Autumn Mystery is racing well, and Shinn stays aboard, it is having its 5th run in so that is a slight query.
Miewa is a chance, he is another having his 5th start this prep. I think it’s in the hopes although I have him considerably longer than the $4 currently on offer.
Backing #7 Arabian Prince (2 win units)
R3- The fillies’ version of the previous race and this lot has many looking to head to the Oaks in Cup week. I have narrowed it down to 3 main hopes and will have 2 small plays on those out of the market.
The first of those is Just Kick, the slow pace was severely against it last start and its closing couple of sectionals were very good. The additional 400M suits perfectly here and I think we should get $10+.
My other horse I’m looking to paly is Future Frankie from the Mark Walker stable. If there is a horse bred for a staying trip, then it’s this girl. She is by the global superstar Frankel out of a Japanese mare in Mirai E, she is a sister to their fabulous sire Tosen Stardom. Her first start at Cranbourne reeked of her needing more ground, an extra 400M is perfect at this stage. She draws for a soft run and will be here at the finish.
The fave Just A Journey is the one they need to beat, she is racing well in Sydney and will target the Oaks also, Shinn will give her every chance especially if he’s allowed to dictate terms in front. The $2.40 is a tad skinny for my liking, in saying that if the track is favouring leaders, then she will shorten off that quote.
After Summer is beautifully bred, draws to get a cosy run, and its win last start had good merit.
Backing #6 Just Kick (0.5 win unit) and #12 Future Frankie (0.5 win unit)
R4- A group on nice sprinting 3yo’s here, most looking to head to the Coolmore in a couple of weeks.
Mcgaw is my top pick, I’ve always liked this fella, and he lived up to that promise by accounting for a very good field last start. Draws the rails, has handled Caulfield well previously, gets an easier field Lachie Neindorf will be keen to get his name in light on the big stage. I would like to back it although I’m scared that Raging Force might undo both of them.
Tentyris is the obvious danger, he has returned in fine fettle off an injury enforced lay off and is ready to peak here. His past couple of runs have had excellent merit and he will go close.
Raging Force arrives here from Sydney and should be considered, the risk with him is where he settles as he is very on pace. If they take a sit he may be better suited to running out a strong 1200M.
Sheza Alibi hails from QLD and is a new addition to the Moody/Coleman stable, it should be respected that they have thrown her in the deep end here, any market moves should be monitored.

R5- A very even race awaits us here and I am specking the Matt Laurie mare Soft Love. She is unbeaten both first up and at Caulfield and has an excellent record at the distance, winning twice and placing from her 4 goes. Her recent jump outs showed she has returned in fine fettle for this.
Austmarr is ready to improve off its first up run where she missed the start and was used up to get to the front, understandably she ran out of gas late. Her post-race vet suggested a minor issue. A jump out at Mornington was scheduled and she came through that in good shape, a good sign for this.
Akaysha is a nice filly who went super behind the Golden Slipper winner last start, she is a leading hope.
New York Lustre drops in grade off recent efforts and should be thereabouts, she is very good on her day but struggles with some leg issues.
Backing #6 Soft Love (1 win unit)
R6- A good field of speedsters here and I like the resuming Rey Magnerio. This horse goes great first up, loves the track and trip and Jye McNeil has a great association with him. Barrier 4 suits for him to sit just off midfield and peel out rounding the corner to finish over them. The race should set up well given the speed horses Sghirripa, Zealously and Philosopher all wanting to lead.
Arabian Summer comes here off the 7-day back up, she was ok in the hot Giga Kick race and was very week fancied in that event, the fact they are keen to back her up points to a forward showing.
Zealously will control its own destiny from on pace and will look to steal a march on them, if Caulfield plays leaderish it will enhance his chances.
Nadal is above average on his day; it can be tough at times working out which version you are going to get. When he’s on song he is very good.
Backing #1 Rey Magnerio (2 win units)
R7- The best of the day presents here with Ole Dancer. This lovely filly has been targeted at this race, and her recent efforts say she is ready to explode. The last 2 runs have both had excuses and she is crying out for the 1600M. Barrier 5 is perfect for her; she should sit midfield and not have to give them as big a start as she has had to do recently. Shinn sticking gives me extra confidence.
Apocalyptic is flying at present and in search of her forth victory on the bounce. Plenty of ticks, Zahra, Barrier 4, in form, and a 1600M winner, the minuses are the price, her first run the Melb way and some slight question marks on the depth of her form.
Getta Good Feeling has improved at each run and appreciated the 1600M last start. She’s beautifully bred, draws perfectly and will be around the placings somewhere.
Chateau Eze will be better suited ridden quietly and that should be the plan from the wide draw, look for her to be finishing well late in the piece.
Backing #3 Ole Dancer (3 win units)
R8- A small but even lot here with many having winning claims.
I have Here To Shock on top, this boy loves the track and trip and has needed his last couple of runs to top him off for this. He looks to sit leaders back from the draw and should be strong to the line.
Private Eye is an absolute champ, as evidenced by winning $12.5M. He will be extremely hard to beat but the $2.50 is shorter than I have him marked. He has only won one of 7 attempts at 1400M which is the only negative.
Payline has its hoof right on the till, his run behind War Machine has him ready to rumble here.
Royal Insignia is a great chance at big odds; its effort last start should be forgotten as it wasn’t suited.
Mighty Ulysses can pull out a big run fresh and is better than a $81 chance.
No Bet
R9- The race of the day and sadly its not holding the status of years gone by.
The Kris Lees trained Adelaide River appeals to me on a 1×3 basis. This import will stay the trip, has had nice grounding for this, maps ok to get a nice run from midfield and strikes an average lot. The $26 appeals.
Middle Earth has had a few excuses lately; this has always been one of his targets. Gets a very soft draw, Zahra is a big race rider, Maher a big race trainer, he will run the trip right out too.
Half Yours has been airborne recently and will be tough to beat again, I just can’t take $2.80 in such an open event. I have it marked around $4.50.
Valiant King was an excellent winner recently, finally living up to the hype he arrived here with from the UK. A repeat has him right in the finish and $23 seems excessive.
Backing #8 Adelaide River (0.5 win unit, 1.5 place units)
R10- We close out a great day of racing and I’ve settled on the resuming Glasgow Lass. This ex WA galloper performs best when fresh and will be storming home late. There is good speed in this race which will help its cause. The $19 looks over the odds to me too.
Abounding is the rightful favourite, if it produces its run 3 starts back behind Magic Time then it will go mighty close. My concern with her is that she always seems to find one or two better.
Splash Back gets plenty of ticks and is another live chance, it is in rare form and gets Nash which is a massive bonus.
Miraval Rose was great for us last start, I don’t think she will get as many favours here but she will still run her usual honest race.
Tuileries has above average ability and must be considered also. She will be going into the quaddies.
