STARS OF THE SPRING…..LOOKING AHEAD
Chris looks back over the Sydney and Melbourne spring carnivals, finding the horses to follow going forward.
I have not included the sprint queen IMPETARIZ or the grand front running mare PRIDE OF JENNI. Their standout G1 wins make them obvious horses that everybody will want to follow when they return in the autumn.
AETHELFLAED: Came a long way quickly in her first prep. Genuine staying talent will be even better next year.
AKOMURA: Late start to her spring. Set for some good summer targets.
ATTRITION: Lost opportunities after winning the Toorak. Expect a good return in the autumn.
BUCKAROO: Import with the ability. Can blossom after a spell.
BUENOS NOCHES: Rates in the top bracket of sprinters. Trust him to win a good race.
DOULL: Jumped classes to win a Group 2. Can go on with it as he matures.
HEMAN: Still learning. Plenty of potential.
I WISH I WIN: Lookout Imperatriz! Anything he runs in.
I’MINTOWIN: Impressive Sydney debut. Big potential.
JUST FINE: Over the top after his Sydney treble. Ideal Brisbane carnival horse.
KING’S GAMBIT: Big talent. Best is still ahead.
LAND LEGEND: St Leger winner joins the Waller team – how much can he improve?
MAKARENA: Classy prospect. Patience should pay.
MURAMASA: Profiles as a rising stayer with big scope for improvement.
OZZMOSIS: Left them without excuses in the Coolmore. His speed will take him a long way under WFA conditions in the autumn.
ROLL OF HONOUR: Impressive sectionals at Flemington. In the right hands to go on with it.
SALTCOATS: Ex Kiwi disappointed. Expect much more after a spell.
SCHWARZ: Winning on raw talent. Will keep improving.
SKYBIRD: Facing her spring grand final in the Thousand Guineas. Top shelf filly.
SOULCOMBE: Unlucky in both Cups. The Sydney Cup could be his.
STRAIT ACER: Came through the classes in great style. Better again next prep?
SUNSHINE IN PARIS: Brilliant win first-up before setback. She was the missing star.
TOM KITTEN: He’ll be better again in the autumn. Ideal Guineas/Doncaster contender.
WITHOUT A FIGHT: Outstanding winner of the Cups double. He’ll carry on as a WFA star.
