Track – Good 4
Rail – Out 12M (previously out 8M)
Back to the ‘Heath’ this week for another typical winters program. A word of caution, as with this current spate of variable winter tracks, it’s extremely important to observe any track patterns especially as we are seeing the rail placements getting wider and wider (12M this week). As always, please bet responsibly.
Here is a rundown of my thoughts for the day.

R1- The day kicks off with a 2yo race of limited exposed form. Of those to have raced I liked the run of Sonofkirk on debut, he attacked the line nicely behind the promising Miss Ole, the step back in distance is a slight concern.
Oyster Lane is one to keep an eye on from the unraced brigade, its jump out recently and back in February have been good, he’s drawn well, and the ‘Blue Point’s’ are doing a good job.
Another to be wary of is Olatunde, he had 3 early season runs in hot company without threatening and was then tipped out. He looks to have benefited greatly from that experience, any positive market moves should be respected.

R2- My first bet of the day presents here in the shape of Manolo Bling. This filly is the class runner of the field, she will look be prominent on the pace, gets good weight relief from Cartwrights claim, draws perfectly, won her only run at the track and the distance is perfect. At around the $3.50 mark she is a good play.
Trembles from the ‘blue army’ has won both her starts this prep and whilst she is rising in grade, she looks to be able to handle that step up. She also gets a senior jockey upgrade.
Romani Ite Domum resumes after showing promise at her first campaign, she may be better suited over slightly longer later but this should suit whilst fresh.
Runlikeencryption was good at Flemington 3 weeks back and will be competitive again.
Backing #1 Manolo Bling (1.5 win units)
R3- The Mark Walker trained Stage ‘N’ Screen comes out on top here. I really liked her recent win at Pakenham recently, I’m sure that showed the stable that she was ready to win at Saturday city grade. She should sit just off the speed and a repeat of the grit shown last start will take her a long way towards winning this.
Mercurial Lady is the obvious danger, she bashed up a lesser grade field at Ballarat on the synthetic recently, and whilst the opposition was a fair bit inferior to what she meets here, the manner with which she dealt with them showed she has above average ability.
Illyivy and Xarpo have minor claims behind the top two selections.
Backing #2 Stage ‘N’ Screen (1 win unit)
R4- A tricky event here and not one that tickles my fancy from an investment perspective.
It’s A Yes wasn’t given much chance the way the race was run last start and can improve markedly here, should that happen, it will go very close to winning.
Harry’s Yacht has decent ability, he is drawn to get a good run on the speed and will be better suited at the distance after a good conditioning run last start.
Just For Show is an ultra-consistent galloper who just needs to overcome a sticky barrier, that said, his racing pattern is to come from back in the field, hopefully for connections he doesn’t give them too much of a start.
Brandjam improved to win last start and can go on with it here.
No Bet
R5- Galilaeus is a super value bet for me here. This European son of Galileo returns from an unsuitable run on a heavy track at Randwick last start where he copped a significant check in the run. He is far better suited on top of the ground and on his run at this track 2 starts back he is a better chance than what the $27 is currently showing. The 5-week freshen and the drop in distance are other positive factors.
Flamin’ Romans has showed with his recent efforts that another win isn’t far away; he loves the track/trip and John Allen has a very good record on him.
Captain Electric was good at Mornington first up, he faces a slight rise in grade and all indications say its well within his scope.
Blanchard will improve on its effort when resuming and can figure here.
Backing Galilaeus (1 win unit, 1.5 place units)
R6- The first leg of the quaddy and the days best bet is the Joe Pride trained Sydney visitor The Black Cloud. This lovely mare easily accounted for a similar field just over 12 months ago and I can see no reason why she won’t be successful again. Her run when resuming was very good, and the stable are flying. She isn’t here for the frequent flyers points and will be winning, the $3.50 is lovely also.
Empress Of Wonder went super behind a very talented horse in Splash Back when resuming, she has only won once from 10 attempts although her latest effort said win number 2 was close by. If there is a threat to The Black Cloud then I suggest it is this mare.
Sixteen Reasons and Charmed Run are others with outside chances.
Backing #3 The Black Cloud (2.5 win units)
R7- An excellent beeting race here starting with the Ciaron Maher trained Keep Your Cool. This quality mare was excellent when winning first up at Mornington, she settled back off the speed and blew them away late to score. She loves the 1200M trip, Cartwright sticks to provide fabulous weight relief and her 2nd up record supports another good result. The $7.50 currently on offer appeals greatly.
Raikoke was good first up and his record says his 2nd up runs are always better, if that trend continues then he will be a tough nut to crack. It will need luck from a wide barrier, if he gets that then he’s a leading contender.
Red Hot Nic can run a cheeky race if he returns to his old form, he loves the track n trip, Zac Spain has a fabulous affinity with him, and he is drawn to get a soft run. He is far batter than a $26 chance.
It was good to see Talbragar get back to the races and perform ok last start, at his best he would gap this lot. He’s obviously got issues so that makes him a tough betting conveyance, he must go into the quaddy though.
One that may be the blow out is Baroque Road, he drops multiple grades on his runs last prep, has had a stable change, and may pull out a big run for the new camp, $51 is a crazy price for a horse of his ability.
Backing #11 Keep Your Cool (1.5 win units), also #1 Red Hot Nic and #14 Baroque Road (both 0.5 win units)
R8- In a race devoid of speed, I’m happy to back a couple of runners here, Sayedaty Sadaty and Amberite.
Sayedaty Sadaty has been very good this time in and gets his chance to open his Oz account. He maps to sit up on a good pace and be tough to the line. His best UK form is well up to this.
Amberite will also take up a forward position and should they not pester each other I think one of them will win. He run an excellent race when just touched out at this track and trip a little over a year ago, if he runs up to that then the $15 is way over the odds.
Earlswood has a touch of class and can figure, as can Milford who should now be cherry ripe after 3 runs back.
Backing #10 Sayedaty Sadaty (1.5 win units) and #14 Amberite (1 win unit)
R9- We wind out the day with another great value bet in the shape of the Hayes trained Rheinberg. This fella flies at Caulfield, loves the 1400M, and he reacts on all types of going. During Cup week last year at Flemington, he carried 61kgs and started $3.50 in a very hot race when only beaten a length and a half. He drops massively in class to this, is down a whopping 6kgs on that run and is $19. What am I missing apart from the wide gate? Granted he is a little longer in the tooth, but wow, $19 against this lot, let me get at those bookies.
I will be saving my stake on The Open, he gets lots of favours here and this looks to be his race this prep. The $3.70 is getting a little slim but that shows the market is thinking as I do.
Other chances to the talented horses Yellow Sam and Running By.
If there is to be a real outsider storming late it will be Taramansour who can pull out a cheeky run when fresh, if the track is assisting run on horses, then he is worth a lottery ticket.
Backing #9 Rheinberg (1.5 win units) and #10 The Open (1 win unit)
Best wishes if you’re having a play.
