Eagle Farm Racing Preview with Nick Foot

28 June, 2024

Group 1 action returns to Eagle Farm this week and Nick Foot likes one at a double figure price in the feature race.

Race 5 – Listed TATTERSALL’S GOLD CROWN (2143 METRES)

#4 Princess Rhaenys

She rates clear and looks mighty hard to beat returning to Eagle Farm where she broke the track record only 3 weeks ago. Tony Gollan has suggested that this particular race has been the set plan all along and there is no reason why she can’t win again with Blake Shinn going on from barrier 1.

Suggested Bet: Win Bet

Race 8 – G1 Tattersall’s Tiara F&M WFA – 1400m

#2 Semana

The stablemate of BELLA NIPOTINA, who is clearly the best horse in the race, however I think she represents outstanding value and was one of the big winners at the barrier draw. Raced wide and was off the track in the Stradbroke and is a proven 2nd up performer.

Suggested Bet: 1×3 Stake

As we head into the next Eagle Farm meeting, a few recent performances offer clues worth watching. For instance, horses that have shown strong closing speed three-wide or off-pace in the last two starts tend to handle the tight turns at Eagle Farm better. The loosening track in recent weeks has favoured those who can settle and unleash late that pattern is hard to ignore when pulling together Racing Tips.

Take the mare who has bounced back after a less than ideal barrier draw: she ran into trouble early in her previous race but ground through late to finish just off the place-getters. That kind of effort, especially from horses second-up, often pays dividends here. So for anyone compiling Horse Racing Tips, watching how trainers map a horse’s barrier history plus its preferred racing rhythm will likely yield value.

Also, form at the distance matters those stepping up or down to 1400-1600m have an edge if they’ve been tested at similar trips in better company. Recent tussles in Listed grades show horses who can hold their effort from 800m-400m out are more reliable than those who sprint early and fade late. That should influence how you weight value in your selections.

If you’re after more detailed analysis, checking out Racing Podcasts with local trainers or jockeys can shine a light on fitness, track biases and barrier draws things that raw formlines don’t always reveal. Listening in could be the difference between a guess and an informed pick.

With all that in mind, a solid set of Racing Tips for this card might include: one horse proven second-up, one lightly raced but with strong closing sectionals, and one sleeper who has been overlooked due to barrier or lack of profile. These combinations often balance risk and reward better than picking solely by favourites.
