Cracking day of winter racing ahead of us, headlined by the Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield.
#5 I Am Velvet
I was taken by her win at Pakenham FUP. Blake Shinn headed to the synthetic for the first time ever to ride her which is a big push in itself. She raced against the older horses and although she wanted to lay in down the straight, she had panels on them. That performance was reflective on the clock, finishing -5.1L inside the Class Average for the final 600m and soft on the line. Bubble Cheeker goes on for this, she finds some cover from the chute and will be launching late.

#4 Pure Grunt
The race shape was completely against him LS at this track over 2000m. He was well back and they ramped it up from the 1000m which left him chasing an impossible task. He clearly ran the best closing splits of the race and did well in the end to finish 4th. I like him out to 2400m off that showing and with Patrick Moloney drawing barrier 1, he can be ridden a touch more positively to hold a spot and shouldn’t spend a cent.
Suggested Bet: Win Bet
There’s a couple of nice fillies resuming in this race who I suspect will benefit from the run and we can look for a little later in the preparation. HERBERT PARK is the fit horse who has been racing super and is 3/3 on rain affected tracks. LS she was a strong winner in BM64 company at Sandown, beating LA CASONA who has since franked that form. She doesn’t profile as the ‘sexy horse,’ but with a good draw, a wet track and race fitness on her side, she looks a big price.
Suggested Bet: Each-Way Bet
#4 Prinzerro
It’s time to finally cash in on PRINZERRO. He’s been racing really well since returning as a Gelding, outrunning his SP on all 3 occasions. The form around him is a formline I want to be with, RIGHT TO PARTY, THE BLACK CLOUD, FLEETWOOD etc. This race looks easier than the previous assignments and Daniel Stackhouse can take up a position close to the speed.
