The Dogs season is still alive after they held off a gallant Melbourne in one of the great games of the season. The Dogs are still a game behind the Giants, Hawks and the Suns but if they beat the Eagles they will be in the eight at the end of this round as the Gold Coast play the Giants and the Bulldogs have a superior percentage to both of those sides. So, if they win their last two games they will be in the top eight and play finals.

Ed Richards is on fire and is a key reason why the Dogs are still in contention to play finals in 2025 after he had 31 disposals, 14 clearances and 15 score involvements against Melbourne.

Another 5 goal haul by Aaron Naughton and Bontempelli getting plenty of it after half time was the difference in the win over the Dee’s.

The Bulldogs have the class all over the ground and should win. Marcus Bontempelli, Tim English, Tom Liberatore, Matthew Kennedy, Ed Richards, Aaron Naughton and Bailey Dale are on fire, and they are playing great footy at Marvel under the roof.

It will be interesting to see if Beveridge sticks with Busslinger in a key defence post, as that will be an indicator as to whether he is seen as a key player for the rest of the season including finals. Adam Treloar may play in the VFL in a bid to get back into the AFL side for the finals.

The Eagles will need to bring their improved effort again this week if they are to knock the Dogs out of the finals race. Tim Kelly showed why the Eagles got him over from Geelong all those years ago, with an excellent game including 25 disposals, 19 contested, 10 clearances and a goal that helped the Eagles give the Crows a real scare.

Reuben Ginbey has been outstanding this season as an undersized tall defender, and he kept Riley Thilthorpe goalless in the first half last week before Thilthorpe kicked 3 goals after half time. Tom McCarthy has been a revelation since being the first pick in the mid-season rookie draft and had another 29 possessions against the Crows. Liam Ryan returned to form with 3 goals. Young forward Archer Reid’s season is over after suffering tendon damage in his toe, but Harry Edwards will be a welcome addition to help combat the Dogs tall forwards.

The Dogs should dominate this match.

Western Bulldogs by 67 points

The Western Bulldogs have been showing solid form in the midfield, while West Coast has had some shaky moments with turnovers in recent games.
