AFL Tips: Western Bulldogs v GWS Giants

31 July, 2025

Thursday, July 31 – 7:30 PM AEST – Venue: Marvel Stadium

Here are our AFL tips for Western Bulldogs v GWS Giants – including our best bet, player prop, and Same Game Multi, with odds brought to you by BetBetBet.

The Bulldogs are still outside the top 8 after losing two of their past three games, whereas GWS have won five in a row. The Dogs have to win every game and hope that, and their excellent percentage is enough to get them into the finals. So, this is a must win game for them.

Marcus Bontempelli, Tim English, Libba, Kennedy and Bailey Dale are on fire, and they are playing great footy at Marvel under the roof.

The tall timber up forward in Darcy and Naughton 2 goals each last week will get great supply, but they need to sure up their leaky defence and not give the Giants any latitude. It will be interesting to see if Beveridge sticks with Busslinger in a key defence post after a reasonable game last week, as that will be an indicator as to whether he is seen as a key player for the rest of the season.

West was well held last week kicking only the one goal. The midfield group including Ed Richards will need to take control against the Giants midfield which is still solid despite Kelly being out injured.

GWS are in that mix of 4 teams trying to finish 4th, but if that fails, they want to finish 5th or 6th to secure a home final, so they need to keep winning.

Jesse Hogan and Jake Stringer both kicked three last week and will need to do more this week with Toby Greene out suspended after a brain fade last week. It should be easier for Cadman to get off the leash and add to his goal tally including 6 goals three weeks ago.

Coniglio should be ready to find his feet again after being out for so long and not getting much of the ball the last two weeks, and Tom Green in the middle and Lachie Whitfield off half back will be crucial to the Giants chances.

The Western Bulldogs and GWS Giants have delivered some gripping encounters in past seasons, and with finals contention still in play, this clash is shaping up to be another tight contest. Recent form provides plenty to weigh up when making AFL betting tips for this match. The Bulldogs have shown flashes of brilliance throughout the season but have struggled with consistency, especially against top-eight sides. Their midfield, led by Bontempelli and Libba, remains a key weapon, but defensive lapses have cost them close games.

On the other hand, the Giants have been one of the competition’s most improved teams this year, stringing together several impressive wins, particularly away from home. Players like Tom Green and Toby Greene continue to influence outcomes with their physicality and match awareness. The Giants’ ability to apply scoreboard pressure early could be the difference.

When reviewing AFL tips this round, it’s worth considering the recent head-to-head stats GWS has taken out three of the last five meetings. However, Marvel Stadium remains a challenging venue for travelling teams, adding another layer of uncertainty to your AFL prediction. It’s a game that could swing either way, and the matchup offers plenty to think about for punters and fans alike.
