Friday, September 5 – 7.40 PM AEST – Venue: MCG
These two teams could well meet again on Grand Final day so get ready for an enthralling game. The Cats have only played bottom 10 teams over the past 6 weeks and have won by an average of 10 goals, but they come in with a full list to choose from and in great form.
Zach Guthrie, Max Holmes and Bailey Smith are in excellent form, and it was great to see Stengle, Mannagh, De Koning, O’Sullivan and Miers play well over recent weeks. Jack Martin adds some X factor to the forward line and Tom Stewart will be at his intercepting best down back.
Jeremy Cameron is on 83 goals for the season so he is still a chance on kicking 100, but that will not be the focus. He will be more than happy if the Cats win and he goalless as he did a couple of weeks ago. Neale will be back after his one week suspension for a bump on Lloyd of Sydney, meaning he will be well rested for this game. Ollie Henry may have to make way.
The Lions have beaten Geelong twice already in 2025 and will get Lachie Neale back after a quad injury and Jarrod Berry’s shoulder has had 3 weeks of strengthening exercises. Eric Hipwood will miss with a calf injury, so Sam Day and Logan Morris will have to stand tall and ensure if they can’t mark the footy, they bring it to ground for livewire forward Kai Lohmann, Charlie Cameron and Cam Rayner to use their goal sense.
Brisbane will be looking for the midfield to dominate possession with Dunkley, the Ashcroft brothers, McCluggage, Fletcher and Fort looking to provide their forwards with plenty of goal scoring opportunities. Zac Bailey will be able to spend more time forward with Neale back in the middle. Will Ah Chee keep his place after struggling for form over recent weeks. Ryan Lester has been in great form and could get the job on Jereny Cameron.
What a game this should be!
Cats by 15 points
Every footy fan knows how the Cats can shift gears when it counts. After Brisbane stunned Geelong at Kardinia Park in Round 15, Cam Rayner’s three-goal heroics reminded us that meltdowns can come when grounding is lost. If you’re mulling over AFL Betting Tips, trust in Brisbane’s grit built on that win. But Geelong’s raw fire and finals pedigree still make them a live chance, especially if they tighten up in the midfield. Our AFL Tips lean toward a tight tussle small margins, big moments. That’s the heart of any solid AFL Prediction.
