Saturday, August 2 – 7.35 PM AEST – Venue: MCG
Collingwood will be looking to consolidate top spot and Brisbane are currently third after losing last week to the Suns. They need to win all four games until finals and hope that the Pies or Crows falter and enable them to finish in the top two to ensure they get two home finals. If they don’t, they could well be back at the MCG playing the Pies in the first week of the finals. The Lions play the MCG well as we saw in the Grand Final thrashing they gave the Swans last year. Similarly, Collingwood have to win to ensure they hold a top 2 spot or else they risk playing the first final interstate against Brisbane or Adelaide, rather than on the MCG.
The Pies are playing really good footy. They have been getting enough inside 50’s but need to convert them more readily into goals.
They should get Pendelbury and Frampton back this week and possibly Hill and De Goey after they played in the VFL last Saturday night. Sullivan will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury and Jeremy Howe is still a week away from returning after his groin injury. Hill and De Goey would add some scoring power and speed to the forward line, and Frampton will sure up their defence.
The Daicos brothers racked up 72 possessions between them last week with Nick getting a career high 42 and Josh 30. Darcy Cameron is having an All-Australian type year and Tom Mitchell found plenty of the ball as he hunts a permanent spot in Craig McCra’s best 23, finishing with 29 disposals and six tackles.
After being fumbly in the wet last week, the Lions will be hoping for a dry night on Saturday. It was a very poor effort last week with few players deserving a mention in their best players. Neale, the Ashcroft brothers and Fort and McInerney will need to bounce back to good form, or the Pies will give the Lions another footy lesson.
Collingwood and Brisbane continue to deliver tightly contested matchups, with fans and punters keeping a close eye on their recent form. As the two sides prepare for their next face-off, many are turning to AFL Betting Tips to gauge the likely outcome. Collingwood’s recent performances have shown signs of regaining rhythm after a patchy start to the season, while Brisbane has been pushing hard to climb back into top-four contention.
In their last encounter, Brisbane edged out Collingwood with a strong fourth-quarter showing, demonstrating their ability to finish games under pressure. However, Collingwood’s midfield has started to find better balance in recent weeks, and their ball movement has looked more fluid across the half-back.
When looking at AFL Tips for this clash, it’s worth considering how both teams perform under the lights. Saturday night games tend to bring out the best in these clubs, particularly when played at neutral grounds or the MCG. Historical head-to-head stats also show a fairly even record over the past five seasons, making this matchup tough to call.
Expect a strategic contest, with both teams aware of what’s at stake heading into the business end of the season. As always, base your AFL predictions on form, match-ups, and conditions.
