The winner of this game should finish top 4 and get the double chance, whilst the loser will finish 7th or 8th and play an elimination final away from home.
The Hawks have excellent talls and smalls up forward in Gunston, Lewis, Chol, Watson, Ginnivan, Moore and Dear and an excellent defence led by Sicily, Battle, Amon, Impie and Barrass and they don’t turn the ball over.
Will Day will be missed, and Weddle will be hoping for a positive outcome from his scan on his back stress issue this week, so that he can continue to build his fitness for a return this season.
Connor Macdonald 28 disposals, 517 metres gained, a goal and 12 score involvements, Dylan Moore 32 disposals, 2 goals and 6 score involvements and Jai Newcombe 22 disposals, 5 tackles and 5 score involvements were all excellent in the Hawks win over the Demons. Jack Gunston keeps on keeping on with a bag of 7 goals to give him 60 goals for the year, and surely another All Australian blazer!
The ruck battle will be interesting with Meek and Fort both in good form. Sam Mitchell will continue to keep playing four talls in the forward line Chol, Dear, Lewis and Gunston and try and stretch the Lions defence.
For the Lions, Lachie Neale will be out again with a quad injury and Eric Hipwood will miss too with a calf injury which could end his finals campaign before it even starts. Jarrod Berry dislocated his shoulder in the win over the Dockers and should be given two weeks to let it settle before resuming in the first week of the finals with Neale. Livewire forward Kai Lohmann will return from his calf injury and 206cm Henry Smith will be brought back in as a key forward after being dropped in favour of Sam Day for the Dockers clash.
Brisbane will be looking for the midfield to dominate possession with Dunkley, the Ashcroft brothers, McCluggage, Fletcher and Fort looking to provide their forwards with plenty of goal scoring opportunities. Zac Bailey 2 goals from 28 disposals has been excellent as an inside mid in Lachie Neale’s absence, spending 40 per cent of his time at the centre bounce. Charlie Cameron 3 goals and Cam Rayner 2 goals will provide the X factor for Logan Morris 4 goals and Callum Ah Chee 1 goal to work alongside.
What a game this should be!
Brisbane and Hawthorn bring contrasting styles into this clash, making it one of the more intriguing matchups of the round. Recent form shows Brisbane tightening up their defensive structures, while Hawthorn has relied heavily on fast ball movement to create scoring chances. Looking at past encounters, the Lions have often controlled clearances, but the Hawks have found success when applying midfield pressure. As both sides continue to push for consistency in the current tournament, analysing player matchups and recent statistics plays an important role in shaping AFL Betting Tips.
