Gday Folks! Although Autumn Glow won for us last weekend, which many will have predicted, it was a weekend of near misses. Cosmic Crusader and Too Dardy both finished 2nd, while Hurricane Lu placed 3rd. This weekend we have six super picks to keep you going over the weekend.
He won the San Domenico over 1100m at Rosehill and broke the track record, despite encountering restricted room. He now draws barrier 5, keeps Zac Lloyd, and his trainers report that his final work has been excellent.
The obvious question is the jump from 1100m to 1400m second-up. That’s what stops this being a complete slam dunk. But his overall profile, including the Golden Slipper win, makes me think he’s the most talented horse in the race.

He comes into it off a last-start win, gets only 54kg, draws beautifully in barrier 2, and has Jamie Melham riding for Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr. The horse that worries me most is #8 Hurry Curry. She gets 54kg and barrier 1, is third-up, and importantly has already won over 2400m. The odds on Leonchroi look short enough but he should get his head infront.

He carries only 54kg, has been in excellent form since joining Corey & Kylie Geran, and last time out won over 1110m at Doomben despite being pressured for the lead. He has also won over Saturday’s 1200m trip by just over three lengths.
The home-track angle is a nice extra: the Gerans specifically targeted the Weetwood with him, and his ability to either lead or sit just behind the speed should give Gary Geran options from barrier 9.
Brave Monarch is probably the biggest danger on ability, but he’s first-up, has 60kg and has drawn barrier 15. That’s a pretty substantial difference from Let’sfacethemusic carrying 54kg from barrier 9.

I like him quite strongly on the form. He has won three consecutive starts, including both of his starts at Belmont this preparation. Most importantly, he beat several of Saturday’s opponents over 1400m at Belmont on 12 September, coming from well back from barrier 14 to beat Swift Talker by 1.2 lengths.
There are two negatives: he steps to 1600m for the first time and carries 60kg from barrier 12. But the way he finished over 1400m suggests the extra 200m is more likely to help than hurt.

The one that stands out to me is #2 Welcometotheshow. He’s the highest-rated horse in the race (97) and has barrier 2. He does have to carry 66kg, which is a serious impost, but the inside draw should allow him to conserve ground.
The horse I’d be particularly wary of is #3 Our Anchorage. He’s rated 94 and carries 64.5kg.

He won the Group 1 Memsie Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield first-up, and the reports from his course gallop this week were very positive. The drop to 1200m is the main question, but he has strong 1200m performances on his record. Barrier 3 with Nash Rawiller is a big plus because he should get an economical run near the speed.
