Track – Good 4
Rail – Out 6M (previously out 4M)
Racing returns to Caulfield with the highlight being the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes. This years edition brings together a small field of only 6 runners where all have a winning chance.
R1- Revelare kicks off the day going for 6 on end, he will start at prohibitive odds and should win going on his outstanding recent form.
Speycaster is currently rated around the $31 mark and that is excessive, he might be the surprise horse.
Le Don De Vie and Mostly Cloudly are place hopes.
Backing the quinella #4 Revelare and #6 Speycaster
R2- A small field although its very open. I’ve settled on Regal Vow, she is racing in excellent form this prep, gets a plum barrier, Williams to ride and has won at this track n trip.
Merrigold is an ultra-consistent mare and the 1400M suits her perfectly.
Paradise City was won her last two and is a very good chance again here.
Brazen Lady is one I am betting against as she finds it hard to win at times and will need luck from the outside draw.
Backing #1 Regal Vow
R3- The Begg trained Samangu can improve on her impressive record here, she finds a similar lot to what she has been beating lately and with even luck should win again.
She Dances is drawn to get a soft run and is the clear danger.
I have these 2 well in front of Lovazou who can run a cheeky race whilst fresh, and Miss Aria who is rarely far away.
Backing #5 Samangu
R4- This isn’t a race that I’m keen to play in.
Proved is on top, she is flying lately and can make it 4 from 4.
Wallenda is ready to improve after 2 nice runs back from a spell.
Documentary and Heart Of Glass are also hopes in a very open race.
The massive query is Tatsumaki who is short in the market for a horse that hasn’t raced for 3.5 years, I couldn’t back it with stolen money.
No Bet
R5- Athanatos is my top pick here, its not usually my go tipping horses that have won 1 from 10 although his only win was at the 1600M. Trainer and jockey are a lethal combo and im happy to be with them here.
Bit Of Shoosh is the obvious danger, he went good on debut, is nicely bred, gets other ticks with the jockey, trainer, and barrier.
Benagil is a horse I have an opinion of, although I don’t think Caulfield is his track.
Zorro’s Flight has ability and can be a contender.
Backing #2 Athanatos
R6- The race of the day, with the standouts being Pride Of Jenni and Zardozi. I have Zardozi on top clearly on the basis that it is still an improving horse and POJ’s best is probably behind here. Zardozi’s only run here was a fabulous effort in last years Caulfield Cup, a repeat of that will have him winning this.
Plenty Of Ammo is a better than average mare who can tip both the fancied runners out if they aren’t on their A game.
Future history shouldn’t be dismissed either, he is very handy, improves 2nd up and has good numbers at the track/trip.
Backing #6 Zardozi
R7- Another tricky event here and I might look to put several runners into the first leg of the quaddy.
Winnasedge was a nice winner last start and if he can overcome a sticky gate then he will be in the finish.
Matisse will improve off her first up effort, she maps nicely and gets Zahra to steer.
Peridot Star is a chance at good odds as is Cavity Bay who resumes for the McEvoy team and is better than a $26 chance.
She’s got Pizzazz must go in also, her win back in November was very good.
No Bet
R8- I like Rohesia to dramatically improve off her debut run. She was tripped out to get some maturity and that strategy looked a clever one off her recent jump out effort. The $12 looks a nice price.
Stablemate Miss Celine will appreciate a significant drop in grade and can improve markedly.
Chergui and Mcgaw are others with claims.
Backing #10 Rohesia
R9- The resuming Nicolini Vito is my best bet on the card. He has competed against the A Graders and acquitted himself well of recent times. There are no Another Wils or Jimmysstars here, the $6.50 seems luxurious.
Bossy Nic is usually around the money and looks to get the right run to finish strongly late, she is the danger.
Hedged is another who has been tested against the topliners, he can be difficult to catch though.
Quickster can run a cheeky race fresh and can fill a place.
Backing #3 Nicoloni Vito
R10- Race shape is the conundrum here with many of the fancies drawn awkwardly.
I’m going to speck the in-form Mrs Artie as she is mapped to conserve energy from the gate, is a consistent mare and seems over the odds at $8.
Mixxit has undeniable ability and may still overcome his wide gate, it will be interesting if they want to ping out to find the lead, if they do that his chances will be enhanced.
Unthinkable is drawn softly and can figure if she gets a run.
Storm Ahead is drawn the widest and will need to spear out and get a soft lead, if that occurs he can win.
Backing #6 Mrs Artie
