RACE DAY – Newcastle/Caulfield November 18th

NEWCASTLE November 18

Best Bets

RACE 6 (3) SKY LAB: Astute Newcastle stable is sure to have set this G1 placegetter for this with his luckless last start sixth in the Rosehill Gold Cup (2000m) when less than two lengths from the winner in a bunched finish indicating he is in the right form. His career is littered with high rating Group performances up to 2400m and also includes a 2200m win in a $1 million race at the Gold Coast. Expect him to run to his best on his home track.

RACE 9: (11) TAVI TIME: Lightly raced talent had nothing more than a barrier trial when strongly fancied first-up over 1400m at Randwick as he was never tested after being badly held up for clear running from the turn. He won second up over 1550m in his last prep and it’s a big plus returning to his home track with a 4kg drop in weight from his Randwick seventh.

RACE 10: (6) PHEARSON: Strong effort second up when a close second in the Goulburn Cup (1400m), adding to his impressive record of finishing in the first two in 10 of his 13 starts. Sure to take improvement from that outing and nicely placed in this class over this trip. Race map points to him crossing from wide gate to keep the leader in his sights.

RACE 4: (4) FALL TO CINDY – Honest mare suited back to her own sex. This one might fall into place for her.

RACE 7: (4) SLY BOOTS – Appeals as one of the better improvers in a tricky race. Will appreciate stepping up in distance.

RACE 8: (1) MAZU – Has had excuses this prep in the best G1 races. Strong trial has him on song again.

TRIAL POINTERS

WARWICK FARM November 8: MILITARY EXPERT looked good running to an easy win in his 1200m trial.

RANDWICK November 3: Justify 3YO JAGJIT was placed in his first two starts in May and June and should be winning his maiden some time soon after an impressive return to win his 1050m heat by almost three lengths (62.69; 34.53). Travelled widest from the start but was always under a good hold and had no trouble putting them away when asked to extend off the turn.

RANDWICK October 20: Unraced TO THE EXTREME has now won two of her three trials with this effort another positive sign that she has the talent to win races. Came from midfield under a soft ride to easily run past the leader for a strong win in her 742m heat (43.63; 33.32). a good performance from previously noted ZOUPHORIA in her C1/Maiden heat points to positive prospects when she goes to the races.

HAWKESBURY October 16: Keep an eye on the Godolphin maiden PARADE GROUND. Looked open to improvement on a good placing in his 1000m heat.

ROSEHILL October 13: Lonhro mare LONG MEMORY was having her first trial since her only race start 12 months ago and performed strongly to win her 900m heat (56.01; 35.39). Jumped to the lead but was given no peace yet kept up a strong gallop under a kind ride to win with some authority. Should repay her connections for their perseverance.

RANDWICK October 6: Zoustar filly ZOUPHORIA, a lightly raced maiden from the Waterhouse/Bott yard, is ar certain improver after she was too sharp for her rivals in the fastest of the four heats over 740m (42.78; 32.82) in her first trial since May.
