Best Bets, selections and insights for Caulfield racing this weekend.
#1 Blue Renegade
Fit horse who’s been racing well over the short course. I like the form around, turning the tables on INTEREST POINT and beating home EARTH GOD who has since franked the form.
Suggested Bet: #1 Blue Renegade – Win Bet
#13 Torranzino
Looks awfully well placed stepping up to 2000m at this stage of the preparation. Clocked the 2nd FL200m of the day at Swan Hill (1600m) LS and both career wins have come at this trip, one of them at Caulfield. Mick Dee will get an economical run from the draw and I suspect he will be hard to hold out.
Suggested Bet: Win Bet
#6 Chorlton Lane
I’ve got a high opinion of this 4YO Gelding for Ciaron Maher and I think he’s a black type winner in waiting. LS he won here over 1400m and that race rated well, finishing -9.4L inside BM. Has since been let-up for 8 weeks, drops 6kg on the last start win and has been kept up to the mark with a very nice 1000m trial between runs.
Suggested Bet: Win Bet
Best Bet: Eagle Farm R5 #4 Princess Rhaenys
Best Value: Eagle Farm R8 #2 Semana (1×3 stake)
Multi: Princess Rhaenys WIN, Semana PLC, Torranzino PLC (Approx $15)
Alright, here’s the deal with Caulfield race days: you can’t just skim a few stats and hope for the best gotta dig in a bit. I mean, sure, the favourites usually hog the spotlight, but sometimes it’s the sneaky, underappreciated horses that end up smashing it (and those are the ones racing tragics brag about later, let’s be real). Weather? It’s a total mixed bag. Some horses basically glide through mud like it’s their job; others crumble if there’s even a whiff of rain. Plus, keep your eyes peeled for jockey swaps or a brutal barrier draw stuff like that can flip the script fast. None of this guarantees a win, obviously (if only), but piecing together the tiny details? That’s where the fun is. Racing tips aren’t gospel they’re more like your mate’s hot take over a pint: sometimes bang-on, sometimes hilariously off, but always worth considering before you throw your money down.
